When British General William Howe determined to confiscate all of colonial New Jersey's printed money, Treasurer Samuel Tucker hid the money in the cellar of this house. Local barmaid Mary Pointing overheard the plan and notified Howe. Howe sent British soldiers to the house. They overpowered the guards and captured the money.
