The Basics
Col. Hazen's brigade was the only Union force to hold their ground on the first day fo the battle. The regiments that made up Hazen's brigade suffered 409 casualties, including 45 killed. Inside the stone wall surrounding the monument are buried the remains of the 45 men of Hazen's brigade who were killed during the Battle of Stones River.
