Within this large stone building sits a massive marble statue of the 16th President of the United States. Above him are engraved the words: "In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever."
 
Abraham Lincoln earned his place as one of the nation's greatest presidents by leading the Union through the Civil War, defeating the Confederate States of America, and by helping to end slavery in the U.S.
 
The Lincoln Memorial is cared for by the National Park Service.
 
Hours: The public may visit the Lincoln Memorial 24 hours a day. However Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm daily.
